Rules for Conducting Internships / Apprenticeship Trainings by Doctoral Students of the Doctoral School
- Formalities Required BEFORE Starting the Internship / Apprenticeship Training (in the First Year)
Before commencing or co-conducting teaching classes, the doctoral student is strictly obliged to complete the following formalities:
- Certificate from the National Criminal Register (KRK):
- By April 30, a paper certificate from the KRK must be submitted to the Doctoral School office.
- Foreigners are additionally required to present an analogous certificate/information from the criminal register of their country of origin.
- Additionally, each doctoral student submits a declaration regarding countries of residence (Appendix No. 4 to Internal Regulation 68/2024).
- Legal basis: This obligation arises from the so-called "Kamilka's Law" (amendment to the Family and Guardianship Code and other acts), the purpose of which is to raise the standards for the protection of minors. The law imposes an obligation on the University to verify the clean criminal record of any person admitted to teaching, caregiving, or educational activities involving minors (including students under 18 years of age).
- Authorization to Process Personal Data:
- Each doctoral student conducting classes must possess an authorization from the Rector of Wrocław University of Science and Technology (PWr) to process students' personal data.
- Formalities related to obtaining the authorization are handled through the Doctoral School office.
- Hourly Dimension of Internships / Apprenticeship Trainings
The doctoral student is obliged to complete the internship / apprenticeship training in individual years of education according to the following schedule:

- Place and Forms of Conducting Classes
- Place of Internship / Apprenticeship Training:
- Internships / apprenticeship trainings are conducted at the faculty employing the supervisor.
- In exceptional situations and with the consent of the dean of the faculty, internships / apprenticeship trainings may be conducted at a faculty other than the supervisor's (e.g., co-supervisor's).
- Internships / apprenticeship trainings cannot be conducted at University branches.
- The type and timing of assigned classes, as well as whether they will be conducted in the winter or summer semester, depends on the decision of the dean of the faculty.
- Each doctoral student receives a teaching assignment document from the faculty, which they should sign after completing the internship / apprenticeship training.
- For matters related to the implementation of internships / apprenticeship trainings and the assignment document, please contact the teaching assignment team directly at the faculty. This is the same team that handles the supervisor's assignments.
- Permissible Forms of Classes:
- Internships / apprenticeship trainings may take the form of:
- Classes conducted independently:
- classes/tutorials,
- laboratory classes,
- project classes.
- Participation in conducting classes (assisting):
- lectures, seminars, classes/tutorials, laboratory classes, project classes.
- Reservation: Participation in conducting classes assigned to another doctoral student or an assistant without a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) is excluded.
- The form of the internship / apprenticeship training (independent/assisting) is determined by the dean of the given faculty.
- Teaching Responsibilities (Contact Hours)
Doctoral students completing internships / apprenticeship trainings (both those conducting classes independently and those participating in conducting them) are required to provide 1 clock hour of consultation (contact hour) per week for students during the teaching period and during the examination session.
- Absences and Justifications
In the case of illness or another unforeseen, justified absence, the internship / apprenticeship training hours falling within this period may be considered completed as planned.
- Procedure: A formal request must be submitted by the doctoral student to the Dean of the Doctoral School. The application template is available on the Doctoral School website: Application for justification of absence
- Exemptions from Internships / Apprenticeship Trainings
- Participants of the "Industrial Doctorate" program – the dimension of the internship / apprenticeship training in this case is 0 across all years of education.
- Doctoral students employed at the University as academic teachers in the position of assistant (in the group of research and teaching staff or teaching staff) – an application is required
- Reduction of Dimension or Complete Exemption Upon Request
- In justified cases specified in the Regulations of the Doctoral School, the decision to reduce the dimension or exempt from the internship / apprenticeship training is made by the Vice-Rector competent for education matters upon request of the doctoral student, supported by the supervisor and the Dean of the Doctoral School. The application must be submitted to the office of the Doctoral School.
