Due to the participation of Wrocław University of Science and Technology in the Unite! alliance, the doctoral students of the first year may apply for an increase in their doctoral scholarship according to the principles set out in ZW 55/2024.

The purpose of granting an increase in the doctoral scholarship for doctoral students is to support cooperation between universities participating in the Unite! alliance in the implementation of doctoral dissertations.

The increase in the doctoral scholarship is to enable doctoral students to carry out one or two research visits to a university from the Unite! alliance, not exceeding 12 months in total. The research visits are to be directly related to the subject of the doctoral dissertation.


Who can apply?

A doctoral student of the Doctoral School of Wrocław University of Science and Technology in the first year of education may apply for an increase in the doctoral scholarship, based on an application submitted to the Dean of the Doctoral School, prepared according to the template specified in Attachment No. 1 to ZW 55/2024.

Eligibility for an increase in the doctoral stipend is granted to the best doctoral students who plan to complete their dissertation:

  1. in cooperation with one of the universities participating in the Unite! alliance;
  2. appointing a second supervisor from among the employees of the universities from the Unite! alliance;
  3. in a topic related to one of the three research areas:
    1. energy,
    2. artificial intelligence,
    3. industry 4.0.

How much is the increase of the doctoral scholarship?

The increase in the monthly doctoral scholarship is 40% of the minimum monthly basic salary for a professor at a public university, currently the amount of the increase is PLN 3,748.00. A doctoral student may receive an increased doctoral scholarship for a maximum of 12 months.

When and where should the application be submitted?

The application for an increase in the doctoral scholarship should be submitted by the deadline set by the Dean of the Doctoral School. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

The application should be submitted by 18.02.2025 2:00 p.m. to the Doctoral School office (room 313, building A-1). A scan of the signed application and an editable version of the application should be sent to agnieszka.chaszczewska@pwr.edu.pl.


How does the application evaluation process work?

For each of the research areas of energy, artificial intelligence and industry 4.0, the Rector, at the request of the Dean of the Doctoral School, appoints separate committees to evaluate the submitted applications.

Within four weeks of the deadline for submitting applications, the committee will evaluate the submitted applications, including conducting interviews with applicants, evaluating applications in accordance with the criteria specified in the regulations (details below) and preparing a ranking list.


What is the proposal evaluation procedure?

Each application must meet the following obligatory criteria for admission:

  • Compatibility of the topic of the doctoral dissertation with the indicated Unite! research area.
  • Confirmation of the declaration of cooperation by a second supervisor from a Unite! university.

Additionally, there are detailed assessment criteria:

  • Scientific activities and achievements (weight 1).
  • The concept of the doctoral dissertation (weight 3).
  • Profile of the second supervisor (weight 1).
  • Plan of scientific cooperation with a university from the Unite! alliance (weight 2),
  • Interview (weight 3),

For each criterion, the committee awards points on a scale of 0-10. The final score is a weighted sum taking into account the weights assigned to individual criteria defined in Attachment No. 2 to ZW 55/2024.


When and how are the results announced?

Information on the committee's decision is provided to doctoral students who have submitted applications to receive an increase in their doctoral scholarship by 10.03.2025.


When is the scholarship increase available?

The doctoral scholarship increase is granted to the doctoral student who ranks first on the ranking list established for a given research area.

The doctoral student may receive the increased doctoral scholarship for a maximum period of 12 months.

The doctoral scholarship increase is granted only in those months in which the doctoral student carries out a research visit to a university from the Unite! alliance indicated in the application and spends at least 16 days there in a given month.


What is the implementation period of scientific visits, how many visits can be implemented?

A doctoral student may implement one scientific visit or two scientific visits. The total length of both visits cannot exceed 12 months.


How does the payment of the scholarship look like?

The increase of the doctoral scholarship will be paid on the date of payment of the doctoral scholarship.


What should be done before starting a research visit?

At least 30 days before the planned research visit to the university indicated in the application, the doctoral student should submit to the Dean of the Doctoral School a detailed plan of the research visit, in accordance with the template specified by the Dean of the Doctoral School, confirmed by the supervisor from the Wrocław University of Science and Technology and the supervisor from the university from the Unite! alliance. The submitted plan should include detailed information on the date of the planned stay.


Doctoral student's obligations during the visit

During the implementation of the research visit at a university from the Unite! alliance, the doctoral student is obliged to deliver a seminar related to the topic of the doctoral dissertation being implemented.


End of a research visit

Within 30 days of returning from a research visit, the doctoral student is required to deliver a seminar presenting the results of the research visiti. Information about the date of the seminar is to be provided to the Dean of the Doctoral School via the Doctoral School Office (sent to agnieszka.chaszczewska@pwr.edu.pl).

Within 30 days of returning from a research visit, the doctoral student is required to submit a report summarizing the research visit to the Dean of the Doctoral School via the Doctoral School Office (sent to agnieszka.chaszczewska@pwr.edu.pl), in accordance with the template specified by the Dean of the Doctoral School.
