According to § 4 section 17 of Doctoral School Regulations, Dean of Doctoral School, upon the request of a doctoral student with an opinion of the doctoral thesis supervisor(s) or the doctoral thesis supervisor and assistant supervisor, after consultation with an appropriate head of an educational discipline, may extend the deadline for the submission of the doctoral thesis in total not longer than for two years.

Extension of the deadline for submission of the doctoral dissertation should be made only for the period anticipated for submission of the dissertation and may be renewed, as above, for a total not exceeding two years.

The extension of the deadline for submitting the doctoral dissertation means the extension of education at the Doctoral School, i.e., the doctoral student retains all the rights of a doctoral student at the Doctoral School of Wrocław University of Science and Technology. Whereby, pursuant to Art. 209 section 2 of the Law on Higher Education and Science "the total period of receiving a doctoral scholarship in doctoral schools may not exceed 4 years". So if a doctoral student has already received a doctoral scholarship for 4 years, he/she will not receive a scholarship during the extension of his/her education.

Dean of Doctoral School may extend the deadline  for the submission of the doctoral thesis, particularly in the event of:

• the necessity to conduct long-term research for the dissertation being prepared, carried out as part of the education at Doctoral School;
• due to a long-term illness;
• the occurrence of random events;
• the need for personal care of an ill family member;
• the need to take personal care of a child up to the age of four or a child with a certified disability.

The application for extension of the deadline for the doctoral dissertation submission should be submitted before the deadline for submitting the dissertation specified in the individual research plan or in the previous application for the extension of the deadline for submitting the doctoral dissertation. The application for extending the deadline for submitting the doctoral dissertation should be accompanied by a report on doctoral dissertation implementation.

Doctoral students who have started their education:

• from the winter semester, they should submit an application for the extension of the deadline for submitting the doctoral dissertation within the period from July 1 to August 31;
• from the summer semester, should submit an application to extend the deadline for submitting the doctoral dissertation within the period from January 4 to January 31.

Signed paper versions of the application for extension of the deadline for the doctoral dissertation submission and the report on doctoral dissertation implementation should be submitted to the Dean's Office of the Doctoral School.
